No, you don’t need to be a citizen of the country you submit your “peace of silence” from. However, you should either live there or have a meaningful connection to that place (e.g., expat), and your recording should be made in a location where you reside or that holds significant personal relevance.

• The goal is to make your inside space as quite as possible • Close all windows and doors • Turn off anything that is "unnecessary" (e.g., television, radio, table fan) • Remove pets unless they can be quite and still • Tell others not to come in the room

To record, please turn your mobile phone sideways, switch to video mode, ensure your microphone is on, and film any area of your space you choose —this could be a piece of furniture, a cluster of photos, a favorite plant, artwork, or anything that feels meaningful—stay very still and quiet capturing 90 seconds of quiet room tone.

Because this project is ongoing and may evolve over many years and in many formats, the video component may eventually serve an important purpose. And personally, I love being able to connect the sound of a room with a visual sense of the space it comes from.

Yes, you’re welcome to have other people or pets with you. Just be sure everyone can remain very quiet and mindful of the peaceful intention behind your submission.

Your 90 second recording will be edited to 60 seconds and then it will be combined with all the other submissions from around the world to become one global sound! It may also be used on it's own along with other submissions during various exhibitions at galleries, museums and online platforms. You name will only be used if you indicate permission to do so on the submission form.(/about-3) As submissions arrive, new editions of the global sound will be created. The most recent edition will always be available on this website, as well as on future distribution platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music (TBA). The first edition of the inaugural global sound is expected to be released in July 2026.
